DVD copy software is best defined as software used to create copies of DVDs. In popular usage of the expression: Software to back up or clone copies of your original DVD movie discs.

Presenting to you are my five picks for the best software in this category. Each software application I personally own, use, and put through vigorous testing for the purpose of writing these reviews. I have my own preference and I will explain why. My personal choice should not sway what you like as all five DVD copy software programs work.
#1 1Click DVD Copy PRO. I am coming out strong on this one. I have tried a lot of DVD copy software and this is the only one that I have complete confidence in. I am not saying that the other ones that I have tried did not work – some did and some so-so did, if you know what I mean.
Because of the human element, nothing is perfect – not even software. But I can tell you that the folks at LG Software Innovations put a lot of thought in the creation of this particular DVD software application. it works very well.
I own a lot of DVD movies and my Step-Son is a DVD movie addict and collects them like baseball cards. I need something that I can rely on to make excellent copies of my DVD movie collection. 1Click DVD Copy PRO proved itself to me right at the outset.
I remember the first DVD movie I copied with it, it was The Count of Monte Cristo and it took from start to finish twenty minutes to make a copy. That was a few years ago and DVD movies have since evolved where more data are on DVD movies now and we also have the larger capacity dual-layered DVD-9 movies. Not a problem: 1Click DVD Copy PRO has not let me down.
If you take a look at the user interface shown below it is pretty cool. And, trust me, everything works on it.
The software can copy any of the conventional DVD movies (in other word everything except Blu ray). This PRO version has six copy "Presets" that let you quickly chose how you want the original DVD movie copied. Perhaps, you do not want all of the extra stuff on the DVD movie. Perhaps all you want is just the movie. In that case, you just select the "Movie Only" preset and 1Click DVD Copy PRO does the rest.
With it, you can copy episodic DVD movies. These are DVDs that have TV series burned on them. For example, I have a series of DVDs that contain all of the Star Trek TV series episodes and the software can make copies of them.
The software has what is called CPRx that makes it possible to circumvent the purposeful placement of bad sectors on the newer DVD movies by manufacturers so that they cannot be copied successfully. 1Click DVD Copy PRO can magically handle that for you.
I know what it is like to drive a four-cylinder car and a V8. When I use 1Click DVD Copy PRO, I feel like I am driving a V8. It is my personal favorite.

#2 CloneDVD is another DVD copy software program that I have used and actually like. I am not mad at it! In fact, it reminds me of 1Click DVD Copy PRO with the exception of the copy Presets option. So, what can this baby do?
Well, it can copy any DVD movie (with the exception of Blu ray). It can copy DVD-5 to DVD-5, DVD-9 to DVD-9, and DVD-9 to DVD-5. Like 1Click DVD Copy PRO, it contains a mechanism that automatically removes protections DVD movie manufacturers place on DVDs to prevent them from being copied successfully.
I can also say that CloneDVD is fast, but not as fast as 1Click DVD Copy PRO, and there is a reason why.
The reason why CloneDVD is not as fast as 1Click DVD Copy PRO is because it does things other than copy DVD movies. It also contains a DVD converter that converts DVD movies to MP4, 3GP, and AVI. These are video formats used by iPods, iPads, iPhones, HTC, PSP, Blackberry, and many other Smart phone and mobile devices.
It should be understood: Because a software does more (bundled) does not necessarily mean that more is good. There will be a trade-off somewhere.
Whenever there is software that is bundled with other functionality, there will be compromises. Such software contains a lot of code and there is more crunching going on and your computer CPU resources work harder. The compromise in the case of CloneDVD is speed. 1Click DVD Copy PRO is dedicated to one thing and that is copying DVD movies. So as far as code is concerned, 1Click DVD Copy PRO it is a much smaller and leaner program making it faster and less of a burden on your computer resources.
This is not to say that CloneDVD does not make great copies of DVD movies – it does. It just takes a little longer to do it.
All in all, it is a very easy program to use and runs on Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

#3 DVDFab DVD Copy is up next. I rank it at number three because, it too, is bundled DVD copy software that is not dedicated to just copying DVD movies; thus, making it not as fast as 1Click DVD Copy PRO.
Yet, DVDFab DVD Copy is a great piece of software for copying DVD movies. Just one look at the user interface tells the tale.
It can copy a full DVD movie. What does that mean? That means that it can copy everything off of the original DVD movie onto a blank DVD disc and, if necessary, compress the original movie down enough so that everything will fit on the blank DVD.
May I deviate for a moment: Whenever the original DVD movie has to be compressed (squeezed down) to fit onto a blank DVD, there will be a loss of video and audio quality. The more a DVD movie has to be compressed, the lesser the quality of the copy. So, we do not want too much compression going on.
DVDFab DVD Copy can also copy just the movie from the original DVD. This is usually a great option because there is less stuff being copied to the blank DVD disc. Less compression going on which leads to a better quality copy.
The software can also take a large format DVD – such as a dual-layered DVD-9, which most new DVD movies are anyway – and split it to fit on two smaller 4.7GB DVD-5 blank DVD disc with no compression. Meaning that the movie will be on two DVD discs with the exact same quality as the original.
The software also lets you do a customized copy. This means that you pick and choose what you want or do not want on the copied DVD. I like this option because it lets me control the level of compression.
You can do what is called a customized split. The software will produce two DVDs from the original with no loss in quality, except you can decide what want or do not want on the two copied DVDs.
You can also do a clone of a DVD movie. That means that you will do a bit-by-bit, block-by-block copy of the original. There will be no compression. There will be an exact copy. The only way a clone can be accomplished is that if the original DVD is a DVD-5, the blank DVD must be a 4.7GB DVD-5. If the original movie is a dual-layered DVD-9, then the blank disc must be a DVD-9 disc.
It is not possible to clone a smaller larger capacity dual-layered DVD-9 to a smaller DVD-5 blank DVD disc. in this case, the DVD-9 movie would have to be compressed down so that it will fit on a DVD-5 disc.
1Click DVD Copy PRO can also do a clone of a DVD as well.
I have used DVDFab DVD copy in the past to make exact copies of DVD. Exact copies of DVDs are called clones.
The software runs on Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

#4 1Click DVD Copy 5. A tear just rolled down my eye. This was the first DVD copy software product I ever owned. I remember vividly how impressed I was with it. I could not believe that something so small could do something as grand as copy DVD movies. It creates quality copies of DVD movies. Two words describes it: Fast and Easy. I have copied DVD movies easily in under 30 minutes.
This software does everything that the professional version does except it does not have the copy preset option. It is just as fast because it is dedicated to just copying DVD movies. I have not found a product simpler to use. It can copy any type of DVD movie (with the exception of Blu ray) and can copy episodic DVDs.
If you want an exact copy (clone) of a DVD movie, no problem, 1Click DVD Copy 5 can do it.
This is a program for those of you who want simplicity and speed. It is priced $20 less than the professional version. Personally, I would spend the extra twenty bucks for the 1Click DVD Copy PRO. But that is me. 1Click DVD Copy 5 is a good investment and will not disappoint.

#5 DVD Cloner 9 is another one that I like. It has been around for some time and has a rich development history. That boils down to getting a lot of the bugs worked out. I would have to say that it is probably the slowest of the bunch but it does work and it produces great copies of DVD movies. I find it just as easy to use as 1Click DVD Copy 5.
So what can it do?
Well, it comes in two operating modes: An Express Mode and and Expert Mode. Express mode makes the decision for you on how the original DVD movie will be copied to a blank DVD disc. It will examine the original movie and based on your selection of a blank DVD-5 or DVD-9, it will ensure that the copy is successfully made with the highest possible quality.
The Expert Mode gives you more options: You can merge multiple DVD movies (DVD-5s and DVD-9s) to fit onto a blank Blu-ray disc; you can copy Blu-ray movies to a single regular DVD disc; you can perform and exact 1:1 DVD copy of the original with no loss in video and audio quality; or you can copy an existing video file to a DVD disc.
You find the software very easy to use and it produces excellent copies of DVD movies. Very reliable.
