Convert DVD to VCD

(The Video Tutorial is at the End of the Steps)

Download and Install The Following Tools Now

Procedure

  1. Insert your DVD movie into your computer DVD player.

  2. Start DVDx 2.1o Ultra Edition. Figure 1

  1. Go to File/Open DVD Root.  (Figure 2)

  1. Navigate to the drive containing your DVD movie and locate the VIDEO_TS directory within it. Select it and click OK. Figure 3

  1. Select the title with the longest Duration. Figure 4

  1. Set your Input Settings as seen in Figure 5 and then click OK.

  1. Go to File/Select Output File. Figure 6

  1. Browse to a location on your computer where you want DVDx to place your converted video files. I recommend that you create a folder somewhere on your computer (Your Desktop, for example) and name it "Videos." That is what I have done in this example. Select the folder you created, enter in a file name, and then click Save. Figure 7.

  1. Since VCDs are created from MPEG files, DVDx will convert your DVD movie to MPEG files. Notice that your MPEG files will be placed in the folder you created in Figure 7 above. Click OK to accept these settings. Figure 8.

  1. Go to Settings/Output Settings. Figure 9

  1. Ensure your settings match those in Figure 10 and then click Apply.

  1. You are now ready to encode (convert) your DVD movie into MPEG1 files. Click on the Record button to start the process. Figure 11.

  1. DVDx will take from 2-3 hours to create the MPEG1 files required to create your Video CDs. I recommend that you do not use your computer for any other function while the encoding is taking place. if you have a screensaver set, I highly recommend that you temporarily disable it (or set it to 4 hours). You want to free up as much of your computers resources for the encoding process since it is CPU intensive. Figure 12

  1. At the end of the encoding process, exit out of DVDx. You should have two MPEG1 files in the Video folder you created in Figure 7 above.
     

  2. Start ChapterXtractor. Figure 13

  1. Click Open IFO, navigate to your original DVD movie drive, go into the VIDEO_TS folder, and select the VTS.IFO file with the largest file size. Figure 14. You may have to select details to see the file size and file extension. Figure 15.

  1. Click on the Save Data button, Enter in a File name, Navigate to your Video folder (the one containing your two MPEG1 files), and click the Save button. Figure 16

  1. Exit out of ChapterXtractor and remove your original DVD disc from your computer.
     

  2. Start VCDEasy. Figure 17

  1. Go to File/Expert Mode. Make sure the Expert Mode is selected. Figure 18.

  1. Go to File/Settings. Figure 19.

  1. Select CD Writer. Make sure your settings reflect those shown in Figure 20 and then click OK.

  1. Make sure of the following settings. Figure 21

  • VideoCD Type: VCD 2.0

  • NTSC (If you reside in North America)

  • Interactivity Playback Control box is checked

  • CD Writer: Make sure your CD Writer is selected

  • Uncheck the Simulate button and Check the burn button

  • Volume Label: Enter in your movie name

  • CD Files: Point this to the Video folder you created in Figure 7

  1. Click on the Add Files button. Navigate to your Video folder, select the first of two MPEG1 files and click Open. Figure 22

  1. VCDEasy scans the MPEG1 file and creates a cue file. Figure 23

  1. The first scanned MPEG1 file appears in the cue. Figure 24

  1. Click on the Options button. Ensure your settings reflect those in Figure 25. Then click the Chapters button.

  1. Right-Mouse-Click within the area shown and select Paste ChapterXtractor (Raw Data). Figure 26

  1. Within the Chapters area, make sure the sequence below is set. Figure 27

  • Check the Set First Chaper to Numeric Key:0 box is checked

  • Check the End Offset box

  • Click the >> button

  • Click OK

  1. Insert a blank CD-R. Make sure you insert the blank CD-R at this point BEFORE proceeding. (IMPORTANT)
     

  2. Click on the Go button and VCDEasy will create an ISO file and place it in the Video folder you created in Figure 7. Figure 28

  1. VCDEasy will proceed to burn the first Video CD. Figure 29

Note: To free up all of your computer resources, make sure you have no other programs running in the background, temporarily disable screen savers, and do not use your computer for anything else (surfing the web, email, word processing, etc until the burning process is complete)

  1. After the burning process, you will have the first of two Video CDs. VCDEasy will eject the Video CD when complete.
     

  2. All you have to do now is repeat Steps 24 to 32 for the second MPEG1 file to create the second Video CD
